Our Mission

Our Board

  • Walter Fitzpatrick, Executive Director

I have recently retired from the Grosse Pointe School System after 30 years of service and nearly four decades in the education world.  I began my journey in Grosse Pointe in 1994 as a math teacher at Pierce Middle School and went on to take on various leadership positions which include Assistant Principal at Pierce, Principal at Trombly Elementary, and most recently, Principal at Kerby Elementary.

Originally from New Jersey, I spent eight years of my career teaching in North Caldwell before making Grosse Pointe my professional and personal home. A proud father of three—Kelsea, Lanie, and Shane—all of whom are graduates of the Grosse Pointe Public School System. I remain passionate about education, leadership, and fostering strong school communities.

  • Matt Agnone, Treasurer

I was a school administrator at The Grosse Pointe Academy from 2008-2020, and a teacher, curriculum director, and elementary school principal in a public school district in New Jersey for 10 years prior.

I have a bachelor's degree from Mount Holyoke College, a master of arts in curriculum and instruction from Caldwell College (NJ), a master of education in organizational leadership from Columbia University (NY), and completed my doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University (TN) in 2021.

I have two children in the Grosse Pointe Schools, and am thrilled to be part of the GP STEAAM Foundation and work to support the students, staff and administration.

  • Shery Cotton, Trustee

I was born and raised in Southern California. My family had several educators, my Father was the Principal of my elementary school. My degree in college was in Early Childhood Education. I taught at Head Start.

When we moved to Houston in 1981 I became involved in the education program at the Houston Zoo where we had classes for the Houston public schools 3-5th grades.

When moving to the Detroit area in 1991 I was encouraged to live on the West side. Luckily for my family a few Grosse Pointers quietly suggested living here. One of the selling points, besides the small town feeling, was the excellent Public School System.

I am excited to be a part of this board to continue offering the best education to the GP families!

  • Ellisse Thompson, Trustee

I was born and raised in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, and graduated from Grosse Pointe North in 2004. I'm married to my high school sweetheart, Will, and we are proud parents of three children — a son in Kindergarten, a daughter soon to begin Preschool in GPPSS, and a younger child who will also attend Grosse Pointe Schools in the future.

I am an attorney licensed to practice in Michigan, and I work at a law firm located in Grosse Pointe Farms. Grosse Pointe has always been near and dear to my heart, and I feel incredibly fortunate to live, work, and raise my family in this special community.

I’m thrilled to serve on the GP STEAAM Foundation Board and have the opportunity to support the students, staff, and administration of GPPSS. It’s an honor to help make a meaningful difference in the lives of families across the district.

  • Melissa Fradenburg, Trustee

I’m excited to combine my passion for economics and finance with my dedication to STEAAM education on the board of the GP Foundation for STEAAM Support. As a financial advisor focusing on holistic financial planning, I recognize that the skills and knowledge gained from a STEAAM-focused education can have a profound impact on an individual's long-term success.

I host a financial podcast and take part in speaking engagements and educational workshops, with a particular focus on financial literacy for women. Raised on the campus of an elite boarding school, where my father is a math professor, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of investing in STEAAM education on learning outcomes.

I live in Grosse Pointe Farms with my husband Jay and children, Jackie and JP. Jackie will be a freshman at Grosse Pointe South and JP will be in 8th grade at Brownell Middle School. I currently serve on the Policy and Contracts Committee for Grosse Pointe Public School System (GPPSS). I also contribute to various organizations, including serving on the board of Phoemale and MOPS.

  • Kristine B. Mestdagh, Trustee

Grosse Pointe is very special to me and my family.  I was raised in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, and I graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School. Years later I married my classmate and dear friend, Jim, and we have been blessed to be able to raise our family in this wonderful community where we both grew up in and currently live in.

Currently, I am the Executive Director of my family's foundation, The John A. and Marlene L. Boll Foundation and have held this position since 2005.

It is exciting to be a board member of The Grosse Pointe STEAAM Foundation.  I look forward to watching the foundation grow as we inspire our educators and deepen our community relationships, which will impact the children of Grosse Pointe and beyond.
